SANCERRE LA MERCY-DIEU, DOMAINE BAILLY-REVERDY, LOIRE, FRANCE 2018
"I must say this is a serious wine, it’s slightly austere and extremely elegant from a famed producer."  Rick

He's not wrong, Bailly-Reverdy makes classic, pure, and energetic Sancerre from their vines just outside Sancerre in the Loire's most famous region. I love this wine with Seabass and samphire. 

MUSCADET SÈVRE-ET-MAINE SUR LIE, DOMAINE HERBAUGES, LOIRE FRANCE 2018
I’m writing this from my desk in Padstow with a view across the Camel estuary the tide is in, and on the other side I can see the Porthilly oyster baskets in the distance and I’m salivating at the thought of my favourite food and wine match; Muscadet and Oysters. Muscadet is an electric shock of a wine, buzzing with fresh acidity and refreshing saline citrus fruit, when teamed with those gorgeous briny, salty, metallic fruits of the sea then you get the perfect combo..

CARA BLANCO, GARNACHA CHARDONNAY, SOBRE LIAS ROSCA, CARIÑENA, SPAIN 2019
​In the world of wine at the moment, Spain ​is making some of the most interesting and best value ​bottles in the world. Its wine-growing areas​ and yields are so varied it’s ​never been a better or easier time to venture off the beaten track away from the stalwarts of Cava and Rioja into a delicious ​sensual world of texture and freshness. This grenache blanc chardonnay from near Zaragoza is a total knockout: it’s super fresh, but it’s also spent some time in contact with older “dead” yeast cells after fermentation which gives the wine a rounded feel in the mouth. That texture combined with the welcome acidity makes it best friends with oily more flavoured fish, such as a fat tuna steak or salmon.

Adi Badenhorst makes some of the best wines in South African, he does whites, reds, roses, mezcal and even vermouth. This is a delicious round, juicy red blend. This is the house red in my household. 

SOLI PINOT NOIR, THRACIAN VALLEY, BULGARIA
Bulgaria might not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking of quality Pinot Noir, however in a sheltered little vineyard on the eastern side of the Thracian Valley, Italian winemaker Edoardo Miroglio is crafting delicious, juicy, perfumed pinot. I’ve tried this blind against many different pinot noirs from around the world and I was convinced it was a Santenay from Burgundy – and I wasn’t the only one in the group. The wine is light, fresh, fragrant with redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit and it’s dangerously easy to drink. Perfect for a Thursday evening when you are just in the mood for a glass of something delicious.
