Charlie's Stay at Home White Wine Selection
I've put together a selection of wines that I will be drinking and enjoying at home and also hope to be drinking when the restaurants open again. These wines are drinking perfectly now, and also are selected to go well with the food you are cooking at home or also one of our 'Stein's at Home' boxes. - Charlie Stein

RICK STEIN'S SPANISH WHITE, VERDEJO, D.O RUEDA, SPAIN 2019
After a number of seafood delights while filming in Galicia & drinking cold Rueda from white china cups, I had to find a really well made one for us. It's charmingly fresh & fragrant. Made with Viura & Verdejo grapes, it's a wine to celebrate my Spanish book & TV series." Rick
CHENIN BLANC ‘SECATEURS’ AA BADENHORST FAMILY WINES, SWARTLAND, SOUTH AFRICA 2019
Winemaker Adi Badenhorst is a force of nature and a superstar in South Africa's Swartland region. This is his much-applauded Secateurs Chenin Blanc which is full of crystalline apricot and pineapple fruit. What I would call a wine with soul.
MUSCADET SÈVRE-ET-MAINE SUR LIE, DOMAINE HERBAUGES, LOIRE FRANCE 2018
I’m writing this from my desk in Padstow with a view across the Camel estuary the tide is in, and on the other side I can see the Porthilly oyster baskets in the distance and I’m salivating at the thought of my favourite food and wine match; Muscadet and Oysters. Muscadet is an electric shock of a wine, buzzing with fresh acidity and refreshing saline citrus fruit, when teamed with those gorgeous briny, salty, metallic fruits of the sea then you get the perfect combo.
SANCERRE LA MERCY-DIEU, DOMAINE BAILLY-REVERDY, LOIRE, FRANCE 2018
I must say this is a serious wine, it’s slightly austere and extremely elegant from a famed producer. – Rick
He's not wrong, Bailly-Reverdy makes classic, pure, and energetic Sancerre from their vines just outside Sancerre in the Loire's most famous region. I love this wine with Seabass and samphire.
VOUVRAY SEC, DOMAINE BOUTET SAULNIER, LOIRE, FRANCE 2018
Dry Vouvray like this or Savennières are really good with dishes like turbot and hollandaise sauce.
GRILLO LA SEGRETA, PLANETA SICILIA DOC, ITALY 2018
There’s a legend that says it was Dionysus who brought pleasure to mankind, and wine to Sicily. Legend aside, Sicily has a rich history of winemaking, with evidence of vines being planted by the Greeks as far back as the 8th century BC. The whole island makes incredible wines. The island has so many interesting native grape varieties just waiting to be explored and tasted, one of my favourites is Grillo, and this one from the famous producer on Island, Planeta is a belter, luscious, waxy, and full of orange peel and peach fruit.
