The nights have drawn in and I don't know about you but immediately want to indulge in the comfort of reassuring, heart-warming food and wine. These six wines are real Sunday-roast-in-your-favourite-cosy-pub-with-the-fire-roaring type of wines. The whites are perfect for roast chicken or pork and the reds great with lamb or beef. Pass me the potatoes and another glass! Charlie Stein

Rick Stein White Burgundy

We blend this wine ourselves and this year we were looking for elegance, roundness and a bit of flesh to match a variety of our classic dishes. We absolutely love it and hope you will too.

Chenin Blanc ‘Secateurs’ AA Badenhorst Family Wines, Swartland, South Africa 2020
Winemaker Adi Badenhorst is a force of nature and a superstar in South Africa's Swartland region. This is his much-applauded Secateurs Chenin Blanc which is full of crystalline apricot and pineapple fruit. What I would call a wine with soul.

Vintage: 2020 | Producer: A.A.Badenhorst | Region: Swartland | Country: South Africa |
Grape: Chenin Blanc | ABV: 13%

Chardonnay, Xanadu, Exmoor Drive, Margaret River, Australia 2018
I first heard about Xanadu in Margaret River when one of our chefs went over to run their winery restaurant and was raving about the wines. This is their Exmoor Drive Chardonnay which is fresh and creamy with not too much oak.

Vintage: 2018 | Producer: Xanadu | Region: Margaret River | Country: Australia | Grape: Chardonnay | ABV: 13%

Château Maledan, Bordeaux Supérieur AC Bordeaux, France 2018
This reminds me of an atmospheric bistro called La Tupina in Bordeaux; just exactly the right wine to go with a steak or a plate of cheese. - Rick

Vintage: 2018 | Region: Chateau Maledan | Country: France | Grape: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc | ABV: 13%

Syrah, Laurence de Veyrac, IGP D'Oc, France 2020
Full of blackcurrant, violet, liquorice, and peppery spice, and deliciously juicy it is too.

Grape: Syrah | ABV: 13.5%

Alphabetical Red Vin Ordinaire, South Africa 2019
Without doubt one of the best-value South African wines on the market. Bright, pure fruit has a compelling chocolatey, earthy richness to it.

Vintage: 2019 | Producer: Owl and Vine Brand | Region: Waipara | Country: South Africa | Grape: Blend, Cabernet Franc | ABV: 14.5%
