Charlie's mixed case includes two choices from his favourite South African wine producer, Adi Badenhorst. You can look forward to trying his Chenin Blanc and a rather special blended red made with Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah grapes.

DOMAINE HORGELUS SAUVIGNON BLANC/GROS MANSENG FRANCE

A wine that is better than the sum of its parts: Sauvignon on its own at this level can be one-dimensional in flavour but when you add the more exotic Gros Manseng you get a partnership worth investing in. Herbaceous, but also a punch of tropical fruit depth.

Adi is a total a legend in the Swartland, his ‘Secateurs’ Chenin Blanc is the gateway wine into the amazing new wave of South African wine. The wine totally over-delivers on flavour packed full of crystalline apricot and pineapple fruit.

VINHO VERDE 'LOURIERO' AB VALLEY, PORTGUAL

Vinho Verdes are getting better and better, this goes so well with shellfish. Very fresh apple and citrus aromas, delicate clean and crisp.

SYRAH, LURENCE DE VEYRAC, IGP D'OC, FRANCE 2019
Made from 100% Carignan down in the South of France with juicy cranberry type red fruit. Good on its own or with slow-roasted pork shoulder or some fatty duck rillettes.

BELLA FIORE, TENUTA FIOREBELLI, VENETO, ITALY 2016
Made in similar way to Valpolicella Amarone where they dry the grapes before fermenting. This results in a really velvety rich red with lots of ripe cherry fruit it is very soft and moreish.

Adi Badenhorst makes some of the best wines in South African, he does whites, reds, roses, mezcal and even vermouth. This is a delicious round, juicy red blend. This is the house red in my household.
